Tinus de Jongh-pink mountains.

Richard and Alexander looking out on to the Suurvlakte Ridge - Gun Peak on the left - looking more like a tortoise than a gun.

This solifuge (a rather scary but non-venomous arachnid) was captured on camera by Alexander in the cottage one night in the middle of a game of Trivial Pursuit,

which was continued from a higher elevation after the strange gogga went to ground under some boxes. Common names for it include sun spider, red roman, wind scorpion, wind spider, camel spider, baardskeerder and rooiman - but read more about them on the SA Museum's
Biodiversity explorer website.
